Since 2019, Dr. Philip Schoenfeld, MD, has held responsibilities with Detroit’s John D. Dingell Department Of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center as chief emeritus of the Gastroenterology (GI) Section. A recognized authority in his field, he has coauthored guidelines of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) related to chronic constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and colorectal cancer screening. Dr. Philip Schoenfeld, MD, also crafted Quality Indicators in Colonoscopy, a multi-society position statement.
Dr. Schoenfeld serves as editor in chief of Evidence-Based GI. The online ACG publication provides summaries of leading-edge research on GI, taken from generalist non-GI medical journals such as the Lancet and the New England Journal of Medicine. He engages as host/interviewer for the four podcasts Evidence-Based GI releases each month on platforms such as iTunes and Spotify.
Dr. Schoenfeld’s responsibilities also include a role as EBMed’s founder and chairman. This educational organization provides continuing education and furthers principles of evidence-based medicine. It also coordinates mentoring that reaches current and aspiring professionals from underrepresented backgrounds.
